Cloud Computing (28 November 2018)

What is Cloud?

  • Cloud refers to a network/internet that present at places which accessible from any location over public or private network.
  • Cloud Computing refers to managing, configuring, and accessing the applications by online, offering online data storage, network infrastructure and application that delivered as a network services.
  • Cloud computing separate infrastructure with business, where "infrastructure" refer to hardware, networking, and software, that managed as 1 entity. Meanwhile "Business" refer to procedural workflow, strategic enforcement, etc.

Cloud Computing Idea

  • Separate IT infrastructure from main main system, managed separately by one party, accessible anywhere by internet and can be shared.
  • Deploying Cloud means outsourcing "Infrastructure" management and risks to third party so company can focus more on "Business".
  • Efficiency of infrastructure provisioning, utilization and management, related to adoption of new technology :
    1. Software Defined Data Center
    2. Instant Application Framework
    3. Automations
    4. Analytics
    5. Etc.
Deployment Examples

  1. Social Networking
    a. Facebook
    b. Instagram
    c. Linkedin
  2. Data Sharing/Collaboration
    a. Email
    b. Dropbox
  3. Education
    a. Quipper
    b. Smart Campus
    c. E-learning
    d. E-library
  4. Business/Office Application
    a. Online shop portal
    b. Google doc
    c. Personal / Corporation Website
  5. HPC for limited duration
    Efficiency for massive computing workload

Advantages and Disadvantages

  2. Reduce cost of software or hardware
  3. Relieve the limit storage capacity
  4. Flexible perfomance improvement
  5. Universal data access
  6. Device independence
  • Disadvantages
  1. Requires constant internet connection
  2. Lost of data and system errors
  3. Concerns about data security
  4. Concerns about perfomance and speed
  5. Might not work on low speed internet connection
